Podiatric insole therapy has many forms and areas of application. Podometrix podiatrists produce podiatric insoles according to the results of the clinical and biomechanical examination, after an unloaded plaster cast has been taken.
Podiatric insoles can be made in different shapes and can consist of different materials. The choice of shape and material of the podiatric insoles depends on the patient's complaint, the results of the biomechanical examination and the purpose of the podiatric insoles.
Children
Children sometimes exhibit an abnormal gait pattern or flat feet and there are children who frequently trip or fall over their own feet, children rarely experience pain. With children, it is important to do prevention and to start treatment early enough (this can be done from the age of 7). By starting early enough, the growth plates are better positioned to achieve alignment of higher segments before the age of 14.5 years. From this age, on average, the growth plates of the hands and feet close. Podiatric insoles for children should be checked and replaced annually, because children grow on average two shoe sizes a year and therefore grow beyond the correction (this can be in length but also in width).
Adult
With adults, stance and/or gait abnormalities are often the cause of overuse injuries. These are not only situated at foot level, but also at knee, groin and hip level. By aligning the feet, these complaints will spontaneously improve or even disappear and muscles and tendons will work better. The custom-made podiatric insoles are often a good solution in the treatment of chronic overuse injuries, not only for sportsmen and women, but also for people with a standing job, for example. Podiatric insoles also help to relieve painful pressure points or rheumatic patients with highly deformed and painful feet. When the podiatric insoles are 2 years old, you will receive an invitation to check the wear and tear and update them where necessary. At signs of wear, new complaints (after fracture or severe ankle sprain, after accident,...) or after surgery (knee prosthesis, hip prosthesis,...) you should contact your podiatrist.
The lifespan of podiatric insoles with optimal correction is on average 3 years (2 years for softer podiatric insoles).
